Dr Jade Smith is a Senior Clinical Psychologist. She obtained a BSc in Psychology passing with first grade honours and then completed her Doctorate in Clinical Psychology. She is currently employed in the North East having previously held roles across a number of London NHS Trusts.  Within her current role she leads in a Paediatric Psychology service working with young people and their families with long-term health conditions including neurological conditions.  She shares her time across teams, also providing assessment and intervention for young people with intellectual impairment, who may also have ADHD and Autism Spectrum Conditions and associated emotional and behavioral needs.

Dr Smith has worked in Child and Adolescent Neurodevelopmental Services where she provided assessment and treatment for young people with complex neurodevelopmental disorders and associated emotional, behavioural and mental health needs. Dr Smith was employed in a London based Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service where she led on the design and implementation of the ADHD pathway and also contributed to the assessment and treatment packages. She also has experience working within a National & Specialist Neuropsychiatry team and within youth offending.  She works independently, providing assessment, therapy and training alongside her NHS work.

She is experienced in delivering assessment and intervention for anxiety presentations, depression, self-harm, behavioural difficulties, and working with loss and adjustment. She is able to draw on her diverse experience to offer flexible and person-centred approaches to complex cases and is skilled in adapting therapy for young people with neurodevelopmental differences.  Dr Smith predominantly offers Cognitive Behavioural Theapy, Interpersonal Therapy, Behavioural Support, Systemic and Family-based Therapy, but she is not tied to one model and adapts the approach to the needs of the client. She is trained in cognitive assessment, ADOS-II and assessment of sexually harmful behaviour.

Dr Smith’s publications include research within Management of Type 1 Diabetes and she has written articles on a range of subjects in the area of mental health and psychology. She recently contributed to an initiative by the Department of Health on improving outcomes for young people and is in the process of writing a book on Adapting CBT for Children with ADHD with Dr Susan Young. Dr Smith is a training sub-committee member of the UK ADHD Partnership.
